Spores are supplied as spore prints on heavy foil. Each print is individually packaged and prepared for clean, stable storage. Spore print size and density may vary by species and variety. Natal Super Strain is the most popular exotic Psilocybe print in the Sporeworks.EU catalog. Originating from South Africa it is strongly demanded from customers comparing rare Psilocybe spore material. This material is listed as Psilocybe natalensis aff. and is closely connected with the current naming discussion around Psilocybe ochraceocentrata. For more background on the current naming issue, see our article on Psilocybe natalensis and Psilocybe ochraceocentrata. Habitat: grassland, cattle pasture, irrigated lawn and enriched soils Climate: subtropical Origin: KwaZulu-Natal / Natal region, South Africa Collection history: The circulating Natal Super Strain material originates as South African collections from KwaZulu-Natal. One collection was made in 1994 from an artificially fertilized cattle pasture, and another nearby collection was made in 1998 from an irrigated lawn at Royal Natal National Park. Although this strain can resemble Psilocybe cubensis, its morphology and genetics are not identical to standard cubensis strains. Taxonomic background: The holotype of Psilocybe natalensis has been sequenced and does not match the material that has circulated as P. natalensis. A collection with a matching holotype sequence to true P. natalensis is documented here: Mushroom Observer 547228. The true P. natalensis has longer and narrower spores than the circulating Psilocybe aff. natalensis, which is also discussed as Psilocybe ochraceocentrata. Because of this discrepancy, Sporeworks.EU lists this material as Psilocybe natalensis aff. until the taxonomic placement is fully resolved. Psilocybe aff. natalensis has recently been provisionally described as Psilocybe ochraceocentrata nom. prov.: bioRxiv preprint. Cap: up to 25 mm in diameter, obtusely conic and expanding to broadly convex with age, occasionally with a small umbo. Yellowish toward the disc, whitish overall, not hygrophanous and often bluish tinged along the margin. Surface smooth to irregular in places. Stem: 40–120 mm long and 2–10 mm thick. Smooth, silky white, straight to curved and enlarged near the base. Bruising bluish green where injured, particularly near the base. Partial veil scant to absent, not leaving veil remnants. Gills: attachment bluntly adnate to subdecurrent with age. Buff at first, then dark purplish brown with white margins. Spores: dark purplish brown, broadly ellipsoid, around 13 × 8 micrometers on 4-spored basidia, though 1-, 2- and 3-spored basidia have also been observed. For the same Natal Super Strain material in liquid 10 ml format, see the Psilocybe natalensis aff. spore syringe. More rare print options are available in the Exotic Spore Prints category.
